  7. UPDATE: I forgot to mention this program should support sid songs, but I
  8. haven`t got that working yet. I also forgot to remove the requester if the 
  9. playsid library wasn`t there(Why complain about something if it doesn`t want
  10. to work anyway ;). It`ll load sids in and all(If you`ve got the playsid
  11. library), it just doesn`t want to make any sound.

  16. This program is shareware but fully functional. Please pay $5,- or 10,-
  17. Dutch guilders. Contact me for payment information.

  21. reasonable fee will encourage me to improve this more and more.

  25. The story:

  27. This is my first attempt to make a proper program for the Amiga. As some
  28. may know I love (electronic)music and compose it myself. Of course I have
  29. been using(and still use) several of the best Amiga song(module) players
  30. around. But I found them to be overfeatured, with tons of menu options and
  31. window gadgets and supporting tons of formats noone will be likely to have
  32. ever heard about ;-) In other words, in an attempt to cover everything
  33. audio and what not they became sort of overkill.... to me at least.
  34.  
  35. Hence my motivation to make a song/audio/module, whatever the name should
  36. be, player. 
  37.  
  38. Besides the Amiga I`ve been developing on several other platforms, the
  39. C=64, for job(s): the IBM AS/400 and some other platform widely used,
  40. which I prefer to forget.
  41.  
  42. Tools used:
  43.  
  44. Amiga 1200 with a 175 mHz ppc/25 mHz 040 powerup card and 32 mb of memory.
  45. Blitz Basic, a great programming language for which some of the best games
  46. ever have been made and are being made. Also very good for application 
  47. development. Coffee, tea, gym, team fortress quaking(try 137.226.116.82 for 
  48. that :) to keep my sanity ;-)

  50. The program:

  52. Ok, as you know by now this program plays modules of different formats.
  53. The formats currently supported are:
  54.  
  55.     * Med, Octamed, Soundstudio(thus 4 channel, 8 channel and the newest octamed 
  56.       soundstudio up to 64 channel formats)
  57.  
  58.     * Pt module(the standard mod format)
  59.  
  60.     * Digibooster through AHI(a new composing program becoming pretty 
  61.       popular)
  62.  
  63.     * IFF 8 bit samples, direct from disk(so no memory limitations)  
  64.  
  65. The most widely used formats are covered as far as I`m concerned(after all
  66. I started to make this for myself to begin with ;). There will appear some
  67. more support for other formats(see `future`) and if you think I missed out 
  68. something really obvious, tell me.

  74.     several octamed related libraries(included)
  75.     dbplayer.library (included)
  76.     libraries for powerpacker and xpk(included)
  77.     AHI for digibooster(not included)

  81.     * Multi format(of course :)
  82.     * Support for xpk`ed and powerpacked files, decrunching in
  83.       fastmemory if available.
  84.         * `App` support, thus drag and drop on window, appicon or
  85.       appmenu(shift select) 
  86.     * Plays (octa)med, soundstudio and digibooster songs from
  87.       fastmemory if available.
  88.     * Fast and easy gadtools GUI
  89.     * Soundperiod displayed with PT modules(working on it for other
  90.       formats)
  91.     * Usage of standard libraries for replay and decrunch, except PT
  92.       modules and IFF 8 bit samples. (hm is that a feature or laziness? ;)
  93.         * Able to load in ANY file and attempt to play it, asking you
  94.       beforehand of course(see and listen for yourself ;) Might be
  95.       usefull for the few people who love weird sounds, some files give 
  96.       perfect sounds for a psychedelic electro song :-D 
  97.         * Reasonably small and fast, doesnt use up much resources. Needs
  98.       very little memory to run
  99.     * Works on all cpu types(as far as i know) and maybe even on Amiga
  100.       os <2.0, not tested though.

  110. Known bugs:

  112. I have fixed all the bugs I found so far, except:
  113.  
  114. Hm.... not a bug maybe, but when I play ONE specific module(and only ONE)
  115. and then start yam 1.3.5 there`s a 50% chance of a crash on my system. The
  116. guru given is #80000020, strangely enough an UNDOCUMENTED guru as I have
  117. not found a description of it anywhere. As this only occurs with that ONE
  118. specific PTmodule and have not found problems with others I reckon it`s a
  119. problem of Yam digging into places it shouldn`t ;-)
  120.  
  121. For the rest I do not know of any bugs present, that doesn`t mean however
  122. that there are not any bugs, most likely there are(as in any program). if
  123. you find some, contact me.

  127.     * SID songs working properly! ;-)
  128.     * 16 bit sample support
  129.     * fast forward and rewind on other than PT modules
  130.     * showing of period on other than PT modules
  131.     * more formats(tell me)
  132.     * `jukebox` option, randomly/sequentially play songs, or a 
  133.       `playlist`.
  134.     * mp3 support(maybe!)
  135.     * more I can`t think of(it`s 4.23 in the night now :)
